It was fantastic to work with Upward Bound high school students. The four day learner-centered workshop focused on writing exercises based on the book:
Day 1: Telling stories about our background
Day 2: Telling stories about loss
Day 3: Telling stories about challenges
Day 4: Telling stories about ourselves
Reflecting on our backgrounds, loss, and challenges forms the structure for developing personal statements.
Thank you to the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona for providing the Pivot Grant which allowed me to purchase copies of Piñata Moon from Antigone books. The Pivot Grant allows artists to explore new ways to connect with the community digitally during COVID-19.
Please contact me about bringing this workshop to your school or community.
Thrilled to learn that Piñata Moon won the Paterson Prize for Young People 2020 in the grades 7-12 category. It was refreshing to have some positive news amidst the challenging news of recent weeks. With COVID-19, I’m eager to find digital ways to offer workshops and connect with readers.
Check out the books from the winners in the younger grade categories:
I love doing writing workshops and I had a great time at Tanque Verde High School presenting Piñata Moon! I lead writing workshops as the artist in residence at Environmental Education Exchange: https://www.eeexchange.org/staff-overview-1
Special thanks to Carol Weiss for her support and encouragement
of this residency!
Email me if you’re interested in a hands-on writing workshop
based on the book.
